Shipping Programs vs. Onsite Service

Shipping vs Onsite

There are two main ways to outsource the service on your electrostatic air cleaners like SmogHogs, Mistbusters, Trions, or Trimists. Both of these methods have their advantages and disadvantages.

On-site service:

With an onsite service company, they will not only wash and repair your exchange collection cells, ionizers and prefilters, but they will do all the filter changing as well. This can be beneficial in many ways.

  • Saves you time
    • You won’t have to swap out the filters or worry about repairing anything that goes wrong with the air filtration system
  • Keeps you from working on High Voltage equipment
    • Electrostatic air cleaners use high voltage electricity (4,000-15,000) volts in order to charge the particles and remove them from the air stream.
  • Less to worry about
    • No shipping hassle or damage, you can either call when you think service is needed or set up a schedule.

The best thing about onsite service is that with a quality service company, they will do more than just clean and exchange your filters. Some of the additional services that might be offered are:

  • Repairing air cleaners when necessary
    • Replacing motor, blower, pulleys, and belts
    • Replacing power supplies, switches, indicator lights
    • Cleaning or replacing contact boards and insulators
    • Rewiring shorted our high-voltage wire
    • Unplugging drains
  • Preventative maintenance
    • Reporting vibration and checking belts and pulleys in order to avoid cell damage, or blower and bearing failure
    • Replacing belts on a scheduled basis if necessary
    • Greasing motors
    • Emptying drain jars
  • Additional related services
    • Adding PVC drains instead of jars
    • Modifying ductwork

While this might seem like a lot of reasons to choose an onsite service, there are also several setbacks to getting your electrostatic air filtration systems serviced this way.

  • It may cost more
    • Since there is travel time involved and time for technicians to exchange the filters, it usually costs more per cell to use an on-site service
  • It may not be available in your area
    • Since electrostatic air cleaners are only used in a few specific industries, it means there is not always a market for an onsite service company in medium or smaller sized cities.

Shipping exchange program

Shipping exchange programs can be a great solution when considering outsourcing the service of your electrostatic air cleaners. One of the main advantages is the service range.

  • Your location doesn’t matter
    • A shipping exchange program is a viable option throughout the lower 48 states, and many spots in Canada.
  • It costs less
    • If you already know how electrostatic air cleaners work, have the maintenance staff available to do it, and don’t have trouble with the exchange aspect, but are struggling to get the filters cleaned. This is often a very cost-effective way to do it.

While many people find that shipping programs are a great answer to their needs, some of the difficulties that you may encounter in servicing your air cleaners this way are:

  • May need an extra set of filters
    • Some companies will ship out filters beforehand for you to exchange, and then you ship your filters back but may require you to purchase an additional set of filters in order to do this for you.
    • If you can afford to have your air cleaners down for a few days while the filters ship out to get cleaned, and then are shipped back again, you will not need to worry about purchasing an extra set of filters.
  • May have to arrange shipping

If you are interested in either of these options, Bee Clean Specialties can provide you with either service.
