How do I Replace the Filters on My DustHog® Dust Collector

Replacing the filters on a DustHog® cartridge dust collector is a straightforward maintenance task when you understand the proper steps. Regular filter replacement is important because clogged filters reduce airflow, decrease collection efficiency, and can put unnecessary stress on the dust collector.

This article explains how to determine when your DustHog® filters need to be replaced and the proper procedure for changing them.

When Should I Replace DustHog® Filters?

The first step is knowing when your filters need to be changed. This DustHog® SCB Series dust collector is designed to be mounted from the ceiling, which is why the differential pressure gauge is positioned downward.

The differential pressure gauge shows how much resistance the filters are creating as they collect dust.

• Around 3–3.5 inches of water column, you should begin planning to order replacement filters.
• At approximately 4- 5 inches of water column, the filters should be replaced. Each system is different but systems are rarely designed for more static drop than this due to initial cost, energy consuption and filters can colapse.

If the differential pressure continues to rise, airflow will decrease significantly. Operating with heavily loaded filters can also damage the filters and potentially cause the filter media to fail.

Removing the Old Cartridge Filters

Most cartridge dust collectors use a similar filter replacement process, whether it is a DustHog® or another manufacturer’s dust collector.

To remove the filters:

1. If equipped with a bagout option have your bags ready.
2. Open the filter access handle and remove the cover.
3. Push up on the cartridge to loosen it from the back wall.
4. If the reverse pulse system is not cleaning properly, it should be inspected before installing new filters.

To reduce dust exposure while removing the cartridges:

1. Place a garbage bag over the end of the filter cartridge.
2. If needed, tape the bag securely around the opening of the dust collector.
3. Reach into the center of the cartridge and pull it directly into the bag.
4. Remove the remaining cartridge filters the same way.

Most cartridge collectors contain two filters installed deep inside the housing. Remove each cartridge carefully to minimize releasing collected dust back into the workspace.

Installing the New Cartridge Filters

When installing new DustHog® cartridge filters, the most important thing to check is the filter gasket.

Most cartridge filters only have a gasket on one side. That gasket side should be installed first so it properly seals:

• Between the filter cartridges.
• Against the rear sealing surface of the dust collector.

Once the filters are positioned correctly:

1. Slide the cartridge filters fully into place.
2. Reinstall the access door.
3. Tighten the handle to secure the door and create the proper seal.

After installation, the dust collector should be ready for operation.

Proper Dust Collector Maintenance

Regular inspection and filter replacement help maintain proper airflow, protect your dust collector components, and ensure your system continues collecting dust effectively.
